Readability Scores Explained
Flesch Reading Ease (0-100): Higher scores indicate easier readability. Scores of 60-70 are considered optimal for general audiences. Scores below 30 are very difficult, suitable for academic papers.
Flesch-Kincaid Grade Level: Represents the US grade level required to understand the text. For example, a score of 8.0 means an eighth-grader can understand the content.
Automated Readability Index: Similar to Flesch-Kincaid, it estimates the US grade level needed to comprehend the text, but uses characters per word instead of syllables.
Tips for Writing Readable Content
Use shorter sentences: Aim for an average sentence length of 15-20 words for optimal readability.
Vary sentence structure: Mix short and long sentences to maintain reader interest.
Choose simple words: When possible, use common words that are widely understood.
Keep paragraphs focused: Limit paragraphs to 3-5 sentences, each addressing a single idea.
Use active voice: Active voice is typically more direct and easier to understand than passive voice.
